Day 23: Step Into What God Has Already Promised

Rachel Graves (Matt 28:5–8; Luke 24:1–8)

In Matthew 28:5–8 and Luke 24:1–8, the women went to Jesus’ tomb expecting to find His body. They brought spices, ready to honour Him in death. They weren’t expecting anything like resurrection.

Then heaven interrupted their grief:
“He is not here; He has risen.”

They had come to anoint what they thought was the end. What they didn’t realise was that God had already rewritten the ending. The stone wasn’t rolled away so Jesus could leave; it was rolled away so they could see in.

How often do we approach life expecting it to be over? Not always physical death, but the death of hope, opportunity, healing, or change. We return to old disappointments, quietly bracing ourselves, expecting the same outcome.

The women loved Jesus deeply. They were faithful, courageous, devoted. And yet even they thought the story would end in loss.

Luke tells us something striking: the angels said, “Remember how He told you…” They weren’t hearing something new; they were being gently reminded of what Jesus had already promised.

Sometimes we wait for God to “speak again” and miss what He has already said. We look for new signs, confirmations, or words, when in reality the breakthrough, the healing, the resurrection is already present. God often asks us not to receive, but to remember.

Faith often isn’t about waiting; it’s about trusting the Word God has already spoken and walking in it, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. We carry our hopes like spices, thinking the story is over, when all along God has rolled the stone away so we can see what’s already true. The tomb was empty before they realised it. Victory was won before they understood it. The promise was alive even while they were still carrying spices.

It’s not about whether God will act, but whether we’ll remember His promises and step into them.

Sometimes the miracle is done; we just need to recognise it.

Reflection

Where in your life are you carrying “spices,” expecting the story to end in loss? What hope, healing, or breakthrough might God have already provided? Take a moment to remember His promises, His faithfulness, and His past victories. How might your perspective change if you chose to trust and step into what is already true.
