Day 14: Mocked but Majestic

Mia Miles (Matthew 27:33-41)

Matthew 27:33–44

This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
They put this above His head on a sign to humiliate Him, being sarcastic and trying to mock Him. It shows that when Jesus was nailed to the cross, He was willing to experience all the suffering in order to bring forgiveness for our sin, so that we may live life in all of its fullness.

Matthew 27:40–41
“Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” When they said this, they didn’t mean it — it was just their way of trying to humiliate Him. But He didn’t come down, because that wasn’t part of His mission. He decided to stay for us because of the depth of His sacrificial love. He thought of us, so we wouldn’t have to suffer and worry about our sin.

The statement came to be true — but they didn’t know it.
Jesus could have walked away from the cross and saved Himself, but He chose to stay for us. He put us before Himself. He endured the pain because His love for mankind was greater. He took all the pain of our sins so we wouldn’t even have to think about it. He stayed to take care of all our pain and sin. What a God!

Whenever I think about that, I always imagine what it would feel like to put my life on the line to take everyone else’s worries away. But nothing compares to what He did for us, because of the amount of love He has for us. Take a moment and let that sink in.

Prayer:
Lord, I pray for anyone who feels like the things they have done are going to keep them down forever. I pray that when people realise You chose to stay on Your assignment, they will understand how much You truly gave for us and how deeply You love us. I pray they realise that what You did for us took all of that away. Whenever they are feeling down, I pray they know they can come to You and lay that pain on You.
Amen.

Activation

What do we do when things get hard — do we walk away, or do we obey Him?
When people mock you, do you just get up and leave?

Take a moment to journal. What areas do you need to ask Jesus for courage and wisdom? Recieve that today.
